MUSEUMS AND GALLERIES IN WINDSOR ON
Art Gallery of Windsor
Initially established in 1943, the Art Gallery of Windsor is a not-for-profit art institute located at 401 Riverside Drive West in Windsor, Ontario. The Gallery is known to house one of the most important Canadian Art Collections. An interesting fact is the Gallery was initially located within Willistead Manor, which we recommend visiting on our favorite historic sites in Windsor ON page. Most of the artwork is from local, regional, and national artists. If you’re a big fan of art, make sure you set time aside to visit the Art Gallery of Windsor.
Chimczuk Museum
The Chimczuk Museum is unique in that the exhibit features the history of the Windsor area and the development of The City of Windsor. This museum is also located at 401 Riverside Drive West (The same address as the Art Gallery of Windsor). The museum also houses a state-of-the-art Children’s Gallery along with a unique hands-on learning space. The Chimczuk Museum is considered an excellent museum for families, as it offers various exhibits for all age groups.
Museum Windsor
The exhibits in the Museum Windsor focuses on the history of various cultural groups in the city of Windsor. These include the French, British, First Nation, and African Americans. Located within the historic Francois Baby House at 254 Pitt St. West Windsor ON, the Museum Windsor is a community museum owned by the Ontario Heritage Foundation, which maintains and runs the museum through local volunteers.
ARTS & MUSIC IN WINDSOR ON
Windsor Light Music Theatre
Established originally as the Windsor Light Opera Association, the Windsor Light Music Theatre is located at 2491 Jos St. Louis in Windsor ON. Offering amateur musical theatre, the company produces and presents music throughout the area and offers two productions each calendar year. John H. L Watson originally founded the theatre in 1948. The Capitol Theatre Windsor
The Capitol Theatre Windsor is located at 121 University Ave West in downtown Windsor. The building is owned by the city of Windsor but is occupied by the Windsor Symphony Orchestra. The Capital is especially unique in that the theatre is a three-in-one venue with each connecting to the grand lobby. The theatre features artists who are both local and non-local and is the perfect spot for lovers of music, drama, dance, film, literature, and more. The Chrysler Theatre
The Chrysler Theatre at the St. Clair College Centre for the arts is located downtown at 201 Riverside Drive West in Windsor ON and overlooks the iconic Detroit Skyline. The Theatre is known for the high-quality productions which routinely perform at the venue. If you’re a lover of theatre, visit the website and see what shows are playing when you’re in the area. However, make sure you purchase tickets in advance as they’re known to sell out fast.
FESTIVALS AND EVENTS IN WINDSOR ON
BookFest Windsor
The Windsor BookFest started in 2002 and celebrates Canadian Authors and the importance of books in our community. During the festival, authors, artists and book lovers gather together to enjoy the importance of books in our lives. The primary BookFest venues are at the School of Creative Arts, The Capitol Theatre, and the University of Windsor. BookFest is held each year in October.
Windsor Rib & Craft Beer Fest
A Windsor favourite, the Windsor Rib and Craft Beer Fest is held each year in June. Usually located at the Riverfront Festival Plaza, this festival offers an enormous selection of Southern BBQ and Craft Beers. It typically runs over a weekend from Friday to Sunday. Each night has a different theme with various bands and entertainers playing throughout the event.
WhiskeyTown Festival
Held at St. Mary’s Church in Olde Walkerville in August of each year, the WhiskyTown Festival features more than 30 whiskies from across Canada and around the world. The idea is for the festival to tie into the history of Walkerville, being the home of Hiram Walker and the Hiram Walker and Sons Distillery, which is responsible for the production and distribution of Canadian Club Whiskey. There is no doubt this festival is going to continue to grow in popularity over the years and is certainly worth checking out.

Windsor Lancers Basketball

Windsor TFC Soccer Club
Located in Windsor, ON, the Windsor TFC is a Pro-Am Soccer Club and Soccer Academy. Not only can you catch Soccers with a very high level of play, but you will also find a lot of it. The Windsor TFC has multiple League levels with both male and female teams. Also, the soccer programs the academy offer allows for local soccer enthusiasts to train and be part of a real competitive soccer program.
Windsor Spitfires Hockey
A junior ice hockey team, the Windsor Spitfires, is part of the OHL (Ontario Hockey League) for the Western Conference. The team was founded in 1971 and won the OHL Championships in 1988, 2009, and 2010. They play at the WFCU Centre and have a considerable following throughout the city of Windsor ON and Essex County.
Windsor Clippers Lacrosse
Founded in 2003, The Windsor Clippers are a local Canadian Junior Box Lacrosse team that competes within the Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League, which is part of the Ontario Lacrosse Association. They play in the Far West Division, and their home arena is the Forest Glade Arena, located at 3205 Forest Glade Drive in Windsor. The games are always exciting and full of action.
